Call of the Cuckoos (1927)

Call Of The Cuckoos derives it's name from the fact that Max Davidson (the star) has a crazy house next door to the insane asylum. The construction of the house leaves much to be desired resulting in leaking bath, uneven floors, failing appliances, etc. Problems arise, not the least of which is the nuts from the funny farm cavorting on Max's lawn. The inmates are other performers at the Hal Roach studios. Laurel & Hardy, James Finlayson and Charley Chase all appear in cameo roles.

Although Max Davidson's films are generally funny, they also have an ethnic image that has prevented a wider circulation.
